Your first practice run

A pretend worksheet, the real app, five minutes. Open Cheetah 101 next to this window and play along: the app can’t tell a practice task from real homework.

No app yet? Download it and sign in first. Right now your app looks like this, and the underlined words are what brought you here:

Try a practice task first, or open your homework and press Whole screen or Select area.
Two gold buttons are ready. Hide hints wakes up when there are hints.
1

Show Cheetah the task

This is Alex’s worksheet. Alex has done two problems, and one of them is wrong. Let’s see if Cheetah finds it without telling Alex the answer.

Name: Alex · Grade 5 · Worksheet 7

Adding fractions with like denominators

Add the fractions. Simplify if you can.

1)1/5 + 2/5 =
2)3/8 + 4/8 =
3)2/9 + 5/9 =
4)1/6 + 3/6 =
Try it now: in the app, press Select area. The screen dims; drag a box around the worksheet and let go. (Whole screen works too, but a box around one task gives sharper hints.)
2

Watch the stripes

The button you pressed runs diagonal stripes while Cheetah looks. It writes the hints, then takes a second look at its own work: it grades them 1 to 10 for how easily someone who never learned fractions could follow them, and rewrites them if they score under 7. That takes 10 to 20 seconds.

Thinking. Keep the worksheet still until the arrows appear.
3

Read the arrows

Arrows land on the worksheet. Each one carries a short sign, and the signs are a little see-through, so the numbers under them still show. Yours will look about like this:

1. Check this bottom number2. Look at these bottoms

Red means something on the screen looks wrong. Cheetah points at the 16 and says which rule to check, never the right number. The panel says each step again in up to 20 simple words:

✓ Problem 1 is correct, nice work!

  1. 1You added the bottom numbers too. When bottoms are the same, keep the bottom and add only the tops
  2. 2Both fractions here have the same bottom number. That bottom stays the same in your answer
Every round is written fresh, so your words may differ a little.
4

Fix it, then click the sign

Fix problem 2 right here on the page: click into Alex’s answer and change it. When a step is done, click its sign. It disappears, and the step gets a ✓ in the panel.

When the last sign is gone, the third button says Show hints. Press it to bring all the arrows back.
5

Ask again

Try it now: press Select area and drag over the worksheet again.

Cheetah compares the new screen with its last hints. If your fix is right, it says so and moves on to problem 3: an arrow at the two fractions, one at the answer line. If the fix is still wrong, the red arrow comes back with a different nudge. Fill in problems 3 and 4 the same way.

6

That’s the whole loop

Select area→follow the arrows→click a sign when done→Select area again

Hide hints clears the screen when you need to see everything; Show hints brings the same arrows back without asking again. Homework in another subject or language works the same: the hints come in the language of the task.
